WATERLOO, IL — The JFP Equine Clydesdales were reportedly caught off guard this week after being informed that their lighter summer schedule is nearing its end.
Beginning in September, JFP Equine will ramp back up its fall schedule of hands-on Clydesdale experiences at our farm in Waterloo, Illinois, just outside St. Louis.
That means the return of our Ultimate Clydesdale Experiences, private Clydesdale Meet N' Greets and other activities requiring the horses to return to the demanding work of being adored by people.
Sources close to the situation say negotiations are already underway, with JFP's CORE FOUR — ACE, FRED, TORCH and FLAME — taking the lead on behalf of the herd.
"They've gotten pretty comfortable," said one JFP Equine representative. "Breakfast. Pasture. Fans. Naps. More food. Now we're asking them to work some grooming, scratches, treats and having their picture taken 147 times back into the schedule."
Management reportedly reminded the negotiating committee that fall also means the return of visitors telling them how handsome they are, feeding them treats and enthusiastically announcing:
"OH MY GOD, HE'S HUGE."
The horses have heard this approximately 11,000 times.
They remain flattered.
Sources say ACE then raised the issue of compensation.
Management confirmed compensation would remain competitive.
The compensation is treats.
Negotiations ended shortly thereafter.
