Full Circle: The Return of a Legendary Wagon to JFP Equine
Every once in a while, something truly special finds its way back home.
At JFP Equine, we’re fortunate to be surrounded by living history every day — from the Clydesdales in our barn to the craftsmanship of the harnesses and wagons they pull. But this time, the story runs a little deeper.
Recently, we were able to obtain a beautifully restored traditional draft horse show wagon — and not just any wagon. This one carries many memories and a whole lot of meaning.
Before my dad, Jim Poole, began his remarkable career managing the Budweiser Clydesdales, he spent years traveling across Canada and the U.S., showing draft horses in competition for some of the most respected names in the business. The last team he showed for before making the move to St. Louis was Woodside Farms in Schomberg, Ontario, Canada.
And this wagon — this very wagon — was the one he showed on.
Throughout the mid to late 1980s, Jim spent countless weekends on the driver’s seat, traveling to fairs and competitions, proudly showing draft horses across North America. The white-and-green wagon from Woodside Farms became a familiar sight on the circuit, known for its craftsmanship and the successful hitches it was a part of.
Decades later, that same wagon has found its way back to us — totally refurbished (by Jake Schut in Michigan), but now painted red with white trim, and looking better than ever.
It’s more than just a show piece — it’s a tangible piece of our family’s history. A reminder of where this all began.
Today, this wagon has taken on a new life here at JFP Equine. Many guests who visit as part of our Ultimate Clydesdale Experience have already had the chance to see it up close — a beautiful blend of heritage, craftsmanship, and personal connection.
For us, it’s a full-circle moment. From show rings across Canada in the 1980s to our barn in Waterloo, Illinois, in 2025 — the journey of this wagon is a testament to the legacy and love behind everything we do at JFP Equine. And we’re honored to have it back.
